Bio
Bill Winters is a two time Emmy Award winning Director of Photography with over 20 years experience in the film and television business. He is best known for his documentary and commercial work shooting several shows that hit the top spot on Netflix, Disney+, and AppleTV+ as well as frequent collaborations with RJ Cutler and Joe Berlinger. Notable shows include “Big Vape” and “Dear…” directed by RJ Cutler, Jeremy Renner’s “Rennervations” and “Twentysomethings: Austin” directed by Zach Merck, and “Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich” produced by Joe Berlinger. Bill helped create the look of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee for Jerry Seinfeld and shot season 1 for director Jo Jo Pennebaker. Bill won a Prime Time Creative Arts Emmy Award for his camerawork on Disney+’s Hamilton for Declan Quinn, ASC. Bill has been featured in ICG magazine as well speaking at industry events and being featured on Sony’s website. He has shot national spots for clients such as Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, Subaru, Liberty Mutual, Vanity Fair, IBM, National Geographic, and many more.
Bill has lit and photographed numerous A-list celebrities including Tom Cruise, Austin Butler, Jennifer Lopez, Barack Obama, Jeremy Renner, Selena Gomez, Jerry Seinfield, Antonio Banderas, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson, Mike Tyson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lenny Kravitz, Jessica Biel, Gloria Estefan, Martin Sheen, Willem Dafoe, and many more.
Bill has spoken at numerous industry events including Cine Gear Expo and seminars at Panavision and Abel Cine as well as being featured on Sony’s website twice for his work on Jeremy Renner’s Rennervations and as a beta tester for Sony’s Burano camera. Bill won his first Emmy Award for his work on “Fall Colors” which was the opening to the Major League Baseball playoffs featuring top NYC graffiti artists who’s artwork comes to life in a visually stunning spot.
Bill was featured in International Cinematographer’s Guild ICG Magazine for his work on the critically acclaimed Netflix show “Twentysomethings: Austin” for its unique style and use of cutting edge camera and lighting equipment. You can read the article here: ICG Magazine November 2021
Other notable projects Bill has worked on include the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival “Chasing Chasing Amy” for Sav Rodgers and Kevin Smith, “Veselka” which premiered at the 2024 Santa Barbara Film Festival narrated by David Duchovny, and the upcoming Martha Stewart documentary directed by RJ Cutler. He shot the award winning hip-hop documentary, “Beyond Beats & Rhymes”, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was named one of the top 10 African-American films of the 2000’s.
Bill graduated from the prestigious NYU Tisch School of the Arts film program and won the Faculty Commendation Award for Best Cinematography. Bill’s projects have taken him to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the crowded streets of Shanghai, the jungles of The Democratic Republic of the Congo, almost every country in Europe, and many more places, but he always enjoys coming home to his beautiful wife and kitties in New York.
